International Order of the Rainbow for Girls

            What is Rainbow?

The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls is a Masonic Youth organization for girls between the ages of 11 and 20, from Masonic, Eastern Star, Amaranth homes, and the friends of members of Rainbow girls. At age 20, or upon marriage, whichever occurs first, girls who are members in good standing are eligible for Majority Membership. A girl must be sponsored by another girl who is a active member in good standing, and at least one adult whom must be a member in good standing of either the Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, or Order of the Amaranth.

Rainbow is a fraternal organization designed to promote personal growth, fellowship, and charity. In addition to learning valuable character building lessons, Rainbow affords excellent leadership experience, public speaking opportunities, study skills, and organizational techniques. Each Worthy Advisor (the girl who serves as the head of her Assembly) is responsible for selecting her officers, planning her term, choosing service and charity projects, planning social events, preparing greetings and speeches for guests, and presiding during meetings. Friendships made through Rainbow are lasting, not only from your own Assembly but throughout the state and across the country.

Some former Rainbow Girls you or your parents might recognize are retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, comedian Lily Tomlin, actress Lee Meriweather who played Cat Woman on the television series Batman,  Dawn Wells, who played Mary Anne on Gilligan’s Island.  Miss America Shawntelle Smith 1996 was also a Rainbow Girl.

Rainbow Membership applications are readily available. Any active Rainbow Girls, Master Mason, Eastern Star, Amaranth, or majority member can obtain a petition for you.
