NL40 History

Northern Light Masonic lodge located in Downtown Maumee, Ohio was started as Freemason Lodge #24 (Army Lodge) in 1813 at Fort Meigs.

The lodge was discontinued following the disbandment of troops after the War of 1812. Lieutenant Almon Gibbs of Fort Meigs petitioned for a new lodge, and a charter was received on December 21, 1818 at the original location.

Northern Light serves Northwest Ohio as part of the regional Masonic community and earned the designation "Mother Lodge", as numerous Masonic lodges in Northwest Ohio and Southeastern Michigan originated through it.

Northern Light merged with Sanford L. Collins Lodge #396 in 1995 and Calumet Lodge #612 in 1997. The building also hosts the Royal Arch Chapter, Cryptic Council, Grotto, and Order of the Eastern Star.
